October 2016 Newsletter :: Gender Justice & The Gig Economy

Dear Educator,

If someone asked you if you’re a feminist, how would you respond? The summer issue of YES! Magazine, “Gender Justice” offers articles on a more inclusive understanding of today’s feminism—a demand for the rights and dignity of all people. Learn about alternative gender identity pronouns like “they,” and why being a “good guy” is not enough.

Welcome to the Gig Economy” (Fall 2016) explores the lives of the 40 percent of American workers who don’t get a regular paycheck. This fast growing part of the workforce choose to—or are forced to—cobble together their living from a variety of jobs. And, we give you 5 reasons to vote even when you hate everything on the ballot.

This newsletter also shares El Otro Lado (“the other side”), a powerful bilingual curriculum that uses story and the arts to help students and teachers understand one another. You’ll also find a young man’s soul-shattering reading of what it feels like to be transgender.

Best,
