YES! National Student Writing Competition   YES! NATIONAL STUDENT WRITING COMPETITION

The YES! National Student Writing Competition is an opportunity for middle school through university students to write for a real audience (not just you, the teacher), and the chance to get published by an award-winning magazine. Each quarter, students are invited to read and respond to a selected YES! Magazine article. If you want a motivator to take your students’ writing to a higher level, then this is the competition for you!

Include our writing competition in your fall curriculum. Have your students read and respond to Kate Sheppard’s YES! article, “Why My Dad’s Going Green.” For the first time, we will accept teacher essays, too.

Kate’s article is about how she, an environmentalist, found common ground with her father, a conservative farmer. Your students should write an essay of up to 700 words that answers the questions, “Has anyone close to you—a friend or family member—chosen to distance themselves from you or sever the relationship because of what you believe? What was the issue? How did you feel? Were you able to resolve it?”

READ “Why My Dad's Going Green.”
LEARN Competition details and how to sign up. The last day we will accept essays is November 23, 2011.
