Donor Transparency and Privacy Policies

Donor Transparency Policy

We are committed to transparency in our organization’s funding.

Accepting financial support does not mean we endorse donors or their products, services, or opinions.

We accept gifts, grants and sponsorships from individuals, organizations, and foundations to help with our general operations, coverage of specific topics, and special projects.

We make public, in our annual financial reports, all donors who give $5,000 or more each year. We also publish a list of donors of $500 or more yearly in our magazine.

We will not accept donations from government entities or political parties. We will not accept donations from sources who, deemed by our board of directors, present a conflict of interest with our work or compromise our independence.

While we encourage our donors to be transparent with their support, to protect the privacy and security of those who wish to remain anonymous, we do accept anonymous donations and honor wishes to remain anonymous in our public donor lists. On those lists, we disclose the number of anonymous donors in each donor category.

All of our news judgments are made independently. They are never based on or influenced by donors. We do not give supporters the rights to assign, review, or edit content.

Donor Privacy Policy

YES! Media is committed to respecting the privacy of donors. The types of donor information we collect and maintain are as follows:

    • Contact information: name, address, telephone number, and email address
    • Giving history
    • Interactions with YES!: events attended, products purchased, donor comments
    • Information that is publicly available online

We use donors’ information to understand their interests in our mission and to update them on the organization’s plans and activities.

Outside of what is required to meet our transparency goals (see Donor Transparency Policy above), donor information is shared with staff, board members, volunteers, and consultants only on a “need-to-know” basis.

We do not share donor lists with, or sell them to, third parties for their commercial use. We do share subscriber mailing lists with select, like-minded organizations. Some subscribers are also donors but are not identified as such on shared lists. Individuals are welcome to remove their names from any lists that might be shared by contacting customer service or logging into their online account.
