Back for its ninth year, the Sustainable Ballard Festival attracts thousands of Seattleites, inspiring them to create a more sustainable community through an abundance of green living and transportation exhibits.
The theme of this year’s festival is community building. Similar to a barn raising, this homegrown, hands-on, human-powered festival offers visitors the chance to come together for a day of work and play to help create a more sustainable community.
Attendees will learn about money-saving community solar installations, urban farming, rain gardens and cisterns, health and well-being, and alternative forms of transportation.
Visitors can test-drive electric and cargo bikes, enjoy solar mini-car races, participate in do-it-yourself workshops, and get rewarded for earth-friendly new habits.
An Undriver Licensing Station™, the PCC Kid Picks Mobile, a Bike Works Family Bike Expo, and a Wi-Fi cafe on a new RapidRide bus will also be on site.
There’s lots of family-friendly fun in store, too. Attendees can taste fresh cider, visit real chickens and rabbits, play games and win prizes, learn about healthy choices, listen to solar-powered live music, and sample delicious local food.
Admission is free for all, no tickets required.
