Source for Educational Empowerment and community Development (SEED) was founded in 1996 to bridge Indigenous wisdom and Western ways of knowing. The Language of the Spirit Conference started in 1999 as a dialogue between physicists, Native American elders, and linguists to engage about the underlying principles of the cosmos and the nature of reality from Indigenous and Western science perspectives. This year, the speakers, discussion groups, films and workshops will center on the questions regarding “Space and Place,” and what it means to have shifted from a world wherein knowledge of time and space was dependent on place, to the modern Western world which has generally moved away from direct engagement with the local landscape and where knowledge has thus become increasingly abstract.
