Youth Portraits of Eco Heroes

A group of East Bay middle and high school students from Berkeley's Young Artists Workspace (YAWS) created this collection of portraits featuring 12 Bay Area residents who have done important work to preserve and heal the environment.

The Young Artists Workspace (YAWS) is a highly accessible community art center dedicated to providing Berkeleyʼs children, ages two to sixteen, with low cost fine art classes designed to expand their knowledge of various visual art techniques, help them develop an appreciation of art from many cultures, and enable them to share their artwork by participating in public exhibitions.

Jennifer Burke BioJennifer Burke founded YAWS in 1998 after realizing there was an unmet need for affordable, accessible art instruction for children. By providing excellent materials and superior tools, Jennifer has seen the young artists at YAWS make magnificent, heartfelt art pieces.
