Finding Creativity in Our Frenzied World

Video: John Cleese on how to let your tortoise mind come out to play.
Document Actions

John Cleese video stillComedian John Cleese on discovering and fostering creativity:

"You need to create a tortoise enclosure so that your little tortoise
mind can—as it's a little, nervous creature—just look around and
think, 'Yes, it's safe to come out.'"

A few of his suggestions:

  • Sleep on your problems.
  • If you lose something, rewrite it from memory.
  • Understand that we don't get our ideas from our laptops.
  • Avoid interruptions to maintain trains of thought.
  • Spark a mood in which your creativity can emerge.
  • Use boundaries of space and time to create an oasis away from stress.
