Video: Festival Brings Spirit of Kenya’s Independence Movement to the US

The Swahili word "madaraka" means "self-realization." The festival bearing that name seeks to empower youth to create positive change in their own lives, their communities, and the world.

Inspired by the annual Kenyan celebration of national independence, the Madaraka Festival comes to Seattle this June. In Kenya, Madaraka Day is a national celebration of the country’s independence from the United Kingdom.

Presented by One Vibe Africa, the festival in Seattle is a collaboration between artists, entrepreneurs, and organizations dedicated to empowering young people through art, education, and technology.
