The thick clouds and gentle soaking drizzle give the appearance of nightfall, yet it is only 3 or 4 pm mid-summer. The Great Bear Rainforest and the west side of Vancouver Island are the wettest places in North America in terms of rainfall. The record was set at Henderson Lake on Vancouver Island where in 1997, 9.5 meters of rain (over 31 feet) fell throughout the course of the year.
