A media star vs. the media
Today, just five corporations own the U.S. media, down from 50 in the '80s. Journalist Bill Moyers notes this trend with alarm. “It's not simply the cause of journalism that's at stake today,” he says, “but the cause of American liberty itself.”
Moyers sees the campaign against corporate media as the single most important way to protect American democracy. He uses his weekly television program, “Bill Moyers Journal,” to illustrate the problem with examples, such as the lack of critical journalism in the lead-up to the Iraq War and the media's silence about the Cheney and Bush impeachment campaigns.
