In Erbil, the Al-Taleaa Kurdistan Children’s organization put on a pubic party in the Al-Menara Park. At the party, children performed traditional Kurdish dances and put on a circus show. The children received booklets about Gandhi and the Al-Mesalla Center of Erbil. The children then released balloons to the Erbil sky with messages of peace and nonviolence. The event was covered by satellite and local channels.

LaOnf logoThe Iraqi civil-society organization La’Onf (which means “no violence” in Arabic) is a network of Iraqi activists building a nonviolence movement to resist occupation, terrorism, and corruption in Iraq. These images were taken during the third annual Week of Nonviolence in Iraq in 2008.

Visit www.peacefultomorrows.org for more information on a solidarity campaign for La’Onf.
