It was only when Madhu Suri Prakash came to the United States and saw how people eat here that she realized the abundance and bounty of her childhood food experiences.
She says: “It took me all that distance and time to realize how much abundance and wealth I had even though we were very poor in terms of a cash economy. But in terms of a cultural economy and a flavor economy we made out like bandits, ... or kings or presidents.”
