Intended to raise awareness of climate change, Live Earth concerts were staged in Sydney, Tokyo, Shanghai, Johannesburg, London, Rio de Janeiro, and New York. Organizers predicted the event, which was also broadcast on the Internet, would reach more than 2 billion people with 24 hours of live music across seven continents.
