Musicians gathered at 7 locations worldwide on July 7, 2007. According to Al Gore, one of the event's organizers, the concerts marked 'the beginning of a three-year campaign worldwide to deliver information about how we solve the climate crisis.'

Jack Johnson performs at the July 7 Live Earth concert in Sydney, Australia. Intended to raise awareness of climate change, Live Earth concerts were staged in Sydney, Tokyo, Shanghai, Johannesburg, London, Rio de Janeiro, and New York. Organizers predicted the event, which was also broadcast on the Internet, would reach more than 2 billion people with 24 hours of live music across seven continents.
