Bamboo Bikes
Brooklyn has waved its wand of DIY cool once again, this time connecting community ownership with the ultimate in sustainable transport. A group of folks there—from engineer to writer to cyclist—have been teaching the handy and eager alike to build their own bikes. From bamboo.
The Bamboo Bike Studio has already made weekend craftsmen out of their first crop of students. They've even teamed up with Columbia University, shipping bamboo bike prototypes and a percentage of the profits to Ghana and Kenya.
