Calling fungi the "soil magicians," Paul Stamets believes it is mycelium that will provide the answers to our current ecological and health problems.

As humans we are more closely related to fungi than any other kingdom. By studying their properties we are able to find treatments for diseases as well as solutions to cleaning up our environmental crises, such as the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Buy his book, _Mycelium Running_ which is even more moving (much more explanatory detail and photographs). I love it!
