People holding hand next to big rock, photo by Mike BairdFor the second summer in a row, people all over the world went to their local beaches to join hands in a call for an end to offshore oil drilling. Originally inspired by the disastrous BP oil spill, demonstrations have happened in all 50 states and more than 30 countries.

"No one industry should be allowed to make mistakes that put so many people's lives and livelihoods at risk," says Dave Rauschkolb, who organized the first event. "The only way that we're going to get off our dependence on oil is to change our energy policies so that renewable energy industries can flourish."
