<p>One of those at the forefront of the Occupy Wall Street activity
beginning this past autumn was eminent University of London
anthropologist David Graeber. His writing has long had sway and
influence in academic and political circles—that has changed
dramatically with Occupy Wall Street and the publication of his recent book, <em>Debt: the First 5,000 Years.</em> Graeber also contributed to <em>YES! Magazine</em>'s newest independent anthology, <a href="http://www.yesmagazine.org/owsbook" class="external-link"><em>This Changes Everything: Occupy Wall Street and the 99% Movement</em></a>, edited by <em>YES!</em> <em>Magazine</em>' co-founder and executive editor, Sarah van Gelder (speaking at Elliott Bay Book Company on Friday, January 13th).</p>

<p>This newly-published anthology, edited by Sarah Van Gelder, co-founder and executive editor of <em>YES!</em> Magazine,
is one of the first primers and printed accounts of the movement that
arose in this country this past year. The Occupy Wall Street movement named the core issue of our time: the
overwhelming power of Wall Street and large corporations--something the
political establishment and most media have long ignored.&nbsp;</p>
<p>But the
movement goes far beyond this critique. <em>This Changes Everything</em> shows
how the movement is shifting the way people view themselves and the
world, the kind of society they believe is possible, and their own
involvement in creating a society that works for the 99% rather than
just the 1%.

In <em>This Changes Everything</em>, the editors of <em>YES!</em> <em>Magazine </em>bring together
voices from inside and outside the protests to convey the issues,
possibilities, and personalities associated with the Occupy Wall Street
movement.<strong><img src="http://www.yesmagazine.org/about/images/copy_of_SarahVanGelder.jpg/image_preview" alt="Sarah van Gelder new photo" class="image-left captioned" title="Sarah van Gelder new photo" /></strong></p>
<p>Contributors to the book include
Naomi Klein, Rebecca Solnit, Ralph Nader, David Korten, and others,
along with early Occupy activists such as David Graeber (at Elliott
Bay Book Co. in Seattle, January 25), Marina Stern, and Hena Ashraf.</p>
<p>This evening should
be a great way to look at the Occupy movement to date, and how things might develop
 in an eventful year ahead.</p>
