Strengthening Local Economies, Everywhere! Dinner on June 11, 2011.<br /><br />The
 Strengthening Local Economies, Everywhere! Dinner plays a pivotal role 
in CAGJ's organizing and fundraising efforts. <br /><br /><strong>Schedule of Events:</strong><br />Happy
 Hour 5:00-6:30: Enjoy libations, live music, complimentary hors 
d'oeuvres, a Silent Auction, and the opportunity to acquaint yourself 
with featured food justice organizations and groups promoting urban 
agriculture, food sovereignty and Fair Trade.<br /><br />Dinner 6:30-9:30: 
Enjoy a scrumptious locally sourced and Fair Trade meal featuring dishes
 from Café Flora in addition to plates prepared from scratch by the 
kitchen leaders of Community Kitchens Northwest. &nbsp;The Dessert Auction 
featuring 40 different desserts will make your mouth water!</p>

Magazine is proud to be a community co-sponsor again for the the Community Alliance for Global Justice’s (CAGJ) annual Strengthening Local Economies Everywhere dinner, with over 400 local advocates, farmers, food workers, and allied organizations.&nbsp;</span></p>
<p>The dinner serves as a key networking opportunity for those working to promote food justice here in Seattle and around the world — a unique event because CAGJ sponsors farmers, workers and organizers from across the food system to be honored guests at the dinner. &nbsp;</p>
<p>This year, CAGJ is &nbsp;highlighting the publication of the second edition of their book, <em>Our Food, Our Right: Recipes for Food Justice</em>.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Valerie Segrest and Elise Krohn from the Northwest Indian College Traditional Plants and Foods Program will serve as keynote speakers. &nbsp;Through their work on health and social justice, Valerie and Elise aim to reintroduce traditional foods into the diets of native people in the Pacific Northwest.</p>

<p><strong>Imbued</strong> with the principles of nonviolence, mutuality and cooperation,</p>
<p><strong>8th Day Center for Justice</strong> commits to act  as a critical alternative voice
 to oppressive systems and to work actively to change those systems.</p>
<p>Father Roy Bourgeois will be speaking about the Center’s vital work and 
the continued struggle for social justice that 8th Day is working 
toward. The event will also include food by FIG Catering, silent 
auction, raffle, music, and presentation of the 1st annual Mary 
Elsbernd, OSF Award.</p>
