Step it Up, on Bainbridge Island

Yesterday was Step it Up day, when thousands of Americans told Congress they want action on climate change.

Step it Up says there were 1548 reports from 1435 scheduled events in all 50 states.

Bill McKibben and a few grad students tapped into the enormous desire out there to do something about climate change, and made it happen with a website.

I'm especially proud because here at YES!, one of our wonderful editorial interns organized the Bainbridge Island event. Catherine Bailey is just 20 years old, and she decided to make Step It Up Bainbridge fun and youth-oriented. Those who showed up as super heroes could win a prize. And participants were awarded medals with mirrors on them, so they could see for themselves who has the power to change the world.

Here's a photo of Catherine at the event as a green super hero.

And here's an article written about Catherine prior to the event.

What can I say ... I'm proud.
