"We the people" and an administration that is out of control

I was not one of the early ones to support impeachment. I worried that all the focus would be on the specific failings of the president and vice-president, who are, after all, lame ducks. And meanwhile others associated with the same policies would continue the wars of aggression against other countries abroad and against the poor at home.

With increasing threats to go to war in Iran, though, I am changing my mind. The American people don't want to go to war, many top members of the military and intelligence establishment reportedly understand what a disaster it would be. And yet the president and vice president appear determined.

"We the people" have the right and the authority to stop this war, if necessary, by stopping the people who have been violating the constitution to further their radical and aggressive agenda. Being right about the war in Iraq and the pending war in Iran is not enough; our job is to stop it.

Howard Zinn is suggesting grassroots, peoples' impeachment hearings. You can learn about plans to march forth on March 4, and about the Occupation Project, which is conducting sustained, nonviolent civil disobedience to end the war.

And from April 15 (tax day) to April 22 (Earth Day) there will be a national boycott "to impeach for peace and justice." Check here to find out how you can help organize it in your community.

And as a reminder of what's at stake, check out this beautiful photo essay from Tehran.
