The End of a Chapter—A Legacy That Lives On
After nearly 30 years of publishing powerful stories that uplift voices too often ignored and spotlighting solutions too rarely seen, YES! Media is saying a tearful, but heartfelt goodbye.
While this is a moment of deep emotion for all of us, it is also one filled with profound gratitude.
To the readers, funders and most especially the long-time supporters who have stood beside us: THANK YOU! That includes community members, movement leaders, organizers, and activists on the ground who have provided inspiration for these stories. Your belief in the power of independent, solutions-focused journalism helped build and sustain a platform that dared to imagine—and showcase—a better world.
To the many brilliant writers, photographers, artists, and editors who brought our stories to life over the years: your creativity and courage shaped YES! into something more than a magazine. You made it a movement.
And to our incredible staff—past and present—who devoted yourselves to YES! with purpose and passion: your commitment gave this work its soul.
We are proud to share that, in the spirit of preservation and continuity, the YES! archives will live on through the stewardship of Truthout—a powerful independent voice in nonprofit journalism dedicated to providing a platform for progressive and transformative ideas.
Our deepest thanks and appreciation to Ziggy West Jeffery, Executive Director of Truthout, and Maya Schenwar, Director of the Truthout Center for Grassroots Journalism, for their commitment to preserving YES!’s legacy and ensuring its stories remain accessible to future generations.
“Over the decades, YES! has created an essential chronicle of movements for transformation and experiments in growing a just world,” said Maya Schenwar, Director of the Truthout Center for Grassroots Journalism.
“The stories found in YES!’s archives will continue to be urgently relevant, especially in these repressive times—we need examples, models, inspirations. We’re honored that the Truthout Center will be stewarding these archives, and we’re dedicated to continuing to uplift these stories.”
We encourage you to follow Truthout to stay updated on when and how you can continue to access YES! stories in the weeks and months ahead.
Lastly, as we close this chapter, we ask you to remember: independent media matters.
One thread of our legacy lives on through YES! Senior Editor Sonali Kolhatkar, whose show Rising Up with Sonali continues to provide bold, justice-centered coverage rooted in the same values that shaped YES! from the beginning. Please be sure to join her mailing list for more info.
We also encourage you to support other independent media outlets—large and small—that are working tirelessly to tell the stories that corporate media often ignores. The future of journalism depends on them—and on all of us.
Thank you for being part of this community, this mission, and this movement. We may be closing our doors, but the vision we shared with you endures. Keep raising your voice. Keep seeking solutions. Keep saying YES!With gratitude and hope,
