Everette Taylor
While the police killing of Breonna Taylor in 2020 highlighted the brutality of our systems of law enforcement, her father, Everette Taylor, in turn, embodies the brokenness of our criminal justice system. Taylor has spent more than two decades behind bars in Michigan, convicted for crimes committed when he was a young man, and consigned to spend the majority of his life incarcerated as a result of harsh sentencing guidelines that disproportionately affect African Americans. Speaking out publicly for the first time since Breonna Taylor’s killing, the elder Taylor reflects on his life and his family with journalist Stephen Silha. Activist Josh Puckett, founder of The Adolescent Redemption Project (TARP), who is himself incarcerated, joins Silha in calling for Everette Taylor’s release.
